Micro motor grinding and polishing solutions

The precision machining of micro motors requires extremely high surface quality, especially for the grinding and polishing process of materials such as electric wood material commutators, oxygen free copper, silver palladium alloy, and iron core motors. According to different materials and requirements, using alumina grinding and polishing belts with different particle sizes can effectively improve the surface smoothness and performance of components.

The following are grinding and polishing solutions for different materials:

1.  Grinding material and particle size selection

We use alumina grinding belts with particle sizes of 30 µ m, 15 µ m, 9 µ m, 6 µ m, 3 µ m, and 1 µ m, and mesh sizes of # 600, # 1200, # 2000, # 3000, # 4000, and # 8000, respectively.  Choose according to different materials and requirements:

Particle size of alumina grinding belt:

30 µ m (# 600): Suitable for preliminary grinding of rougher surfaces to remove larger defects.

15 µ m (# 1200): Used to remove finer scratches and further refine the surface.

9 µ m (# 2000): Intermediate grinding, suitable for finer surface treatment.

Rough grinding: Use a 20 µ m (# 800) alumina grinding tape to remove larger scratches on the copper surface.

Gleaming silver-palladium

Material characteristics: Silver palladium alloy has high conductivity and corrosion resistance, and its surface is prone to oxidation, requiring special attention to treatment.

Grinding and polishing plan:

Rough grinding: Use a 12 µ m (# 1500) alumina grinding belt to remove surface oxide layer and larger defects.

Iron core motor

Material characteristics: The iron core is a key component in micro motors, requiring a smooth surface and good magnetic conductivity.

Grinding and polishing plan:

Rough grinding: Use a 3 µ m (# 4000) alumina grinding belt to remove surface defects and level the surface of the iron core.
